The challenge to getting a good headshot is being yourself in front of the camera. I think the key to taking a good shot in front of the camera is empathy behind the camera. The atmosphere I create for headshot sessions is open, creative, and collaborative. I take the opportunity to welcome you into the studio seriously. I want you to feel at home there. Sometimes headshots can be stressful, allow me to help you find ease in front of the camera.
Look, taking headshots can feel gross. You feel like you're selling yourself in a fairly artificial way. I'm an actor; I've been there. Let me worry about the lighting, framing, and posing. During your session, my aim is to get to know you. That's it.

Curly Hair Split Sessions
For those with curly hair, it can be especially difficult to get headshots with two hairstyles on the same day.
Curly Hair Split Sessions book two 45-minute sessions on different dates so that you have time to re-style your hair. My aim is always for your headshots to reflect you, and I've found that these split sessions give those with curly hair the best opportunity to get images that reflect all of them.
There is no extra charge for these split sessions. Just let me know when you're booking.
What should I wear for my headshots?

I get a lot of questions regarding wardrobe, and here's what it all boils down to:
Colors are great!
Textures are great!
Patterns are a maybe!
Bring options! We can decide together what works.
I hate thinking about what "type" your are. It feels icky. Instead, I like to focus on the facets of your personality you'd like to focus on. When planning for your headshots I recommend taking some time to distill aspects of yourself you’d like to highlight and what outfits bring out those sides of you.
How should I do my hair and makeup?

How are you going to show up for an audition? THAT's the hair and makeup look that should be used for your headshots. Casting agents should recognize you from your image.
If you feel less confident doing your own hair and makeup I recommend utilizing one of the wonderful artists that I collaborate with.

I work with three of Chicago's best makeup artists. All of them focus primarily on makeup with light hair.
When you book with me, I will ask if you would like a makeup artist on the day. If you do, I will reach out to them and book one of them for your session.
I suggest arriving with your hair done and your face clean. We will take care of the rest!
Your makeup artist will stick around for your session, help you keep your hair set while we shoot, change up your makeup between looks, help you add some curls in your hair for a more glamorous look, etc.
Makeup Artists are an extra $200 paid directly to them the day of the session.
When will we get our photos?

You will get your gallery within 2 weeks!
And once you've chosen your final images, you will get your retouches back within a week.
What does retouching headshots mean?

I will remove anything that is not permanent on your face; acne, redness, blemishes, and the like. I will never touch the aspects of your face that make you unique. So your freckles will always shine through!
To make sure your headshots are up to industry standards, I will also utilize some highlights and shadows to make your eyes pop, and give your smile that secret glint!
I know there are photographers with will clear away every wrinkle and pore, but that is just not me. I want you to look like yourself.
Do I need to book a makeup artist twice if I want a curly hair split session?

As actors, our images are an extension of ourselves. Our introduction to the world. I am passionate about creating headshots that expand your capacity. Too often, I hear actors type-casting themselves into the smallest boxes. I encourage you to step away from type casting, and instead find words that feel essential to who you are as a person and an artist. The words I use for myself are grounded, curious, whimsical, and firey. Looks based on these descriptive words are applicable to a wider variety of characters and opportunities. I would love to work with you to create looks that represent your greater artistic self.
You have range.
And we're going to show it.
I encourage you to think of the words you would use to describe yourself and use those words as the title of each look. What word would you use to describe your joy? Your approach to conflict? How you enjoy your work? Are you warm, grounded, and magical? Maybe you are protective, insightful, and charismatic.
